How to confirm it's a cutthroat trout

  1. A red or orange slash in the folds under the lower jaw
  2. Black spots, often more towards the tail and below the midline
  3. Often no pink band, or only a faint one

Could it be something else?

Rainbow trout
Rainbow has no slash under the jaw (lift the jaw to look: it can be faint on small fish).
Brown trout
Brown trout have red spots with pale rings.
